His father is Loudon Wainwright III and mother is Kate McGarrigle of the McGarrigle Sisters.
He has 3 younger sisters, two of whom are step-sisters and one is his full sister, Martha Wainwright, who is also involved in Music.

He is very openly gay, and came out in his teens. He generally does not seem to get harassed much about it, which is a very good thing. :-) If you don't like my wording there, just mail me and I will change it.
